oh, the sweet feeling of relief

It was a long and crazy weekend. For about 72 hours, we thought Skyla had cancer. No joke. On Thursday night we found a huge lump under her jaw and were told by the vet the next morning that she thought it was one of three things- two of which were cancer.

Thankfully, we found out that it’s just an infection (which of course was not one of the original three options presented to us). I won’t say how much we spent to find out Skyla is cancer free, but let’s just say I could have had me a brand new pretty Coach purse (and a BIG one).

Don’t worry, Sky… I would much rather have you around anyway! (cute purses are SO overrated)

from my point of view

Hi everyone, this is Skyla again! It has been a long time since I posted the first time. Mommy and Daddy keep arguing about whether or not I really wrote the last one. It makes me sad that Daddy doesn’t think I am smart enough to use the keyboard!

Mom said I could write on here again because I have some very happy news to tell everyone. I am going to be a big sister! (Mom says I need to “clarify” that I am talking about a furry little brother or sister. What other kind is there??)

See, I have two cousins out in Utah. Their names are Roxy and Brody. I guess my Uncle Bryant let them do some funny dance together and somehow baby puppies got into Roxy’s tummy. I don’t really know what that means, but I sure haven’t ever done that dance. Mom said she would tell me more about it when I get older.

Well, Dad has been promising Mom for a long time that we could get me a new friend. I am really excited to have someone to get into trouble with. And now, when I go on my adventures to the park, my little brother/sister can come with me! Maybe that will make Mom more happy. She still has a mean look on her face when I go to the park without telling her. Sheesh, it’s like she still thinks I’m a puppy!

Here’s a picture of my cousin Brody. I guess he’s kind of lonely right now because Roxy has to spend a lot of time with the puppies. There are 9 of them!

Here’s my other cousin Roxy.

Mom says that my new sibling is going to come live with us in May. Uncle Bryant and Aunt Amy are going to bring him or her with them on a plane (that’s the giant tin can in the sky that I love to stare at!). I guess they are bringing another baby with them too. My mom seems to go all silly whenever she talks about the other baby. I don’t get what the big deal is… I’ve seen pictures and he looks sort of funny. He doesn’t even have any fur!

the wonderful world of Skyla

Hi everyone, my name is Skyla. My mommy let me write in her blog today because I wanted to tell everyone about my exciting adventure yesterday. Normally I spend my days laying in the mud waiting for mom or dad to get home from work. Don’t feel bad for me though- laying in the mud is actually really fun to do, especially when it is so hot. You should try it sometime!

Yesterday was just like any other day… Mom got home from work and opened the gate so we could go to the front and do this thing where she walks to the metal box that sticks out of the ground. Whenever she sticks her hand in there, just like magic, lots of papers come out. I think that the man who comes once a day to our house and plays with the metal box might have something to do with the magic. Anyway, mom always lets me sniff around our front yard, which I really like. Yesterday she was talking on some small box held up to her ear with my Aunt Amy. She seemed to be happy so I figured I would walk next door to where my friend Osa lives. Osa is fun to play with and I like to smell her crotch. Sometimes we play together but mom always makes me leave before I am done. Today I was checking to make sure no one else had gone to play with Osa and then I started smelling all these other fun scents and before I knew it I was 3 houses away from my home.

That’s when I heard mom start yelling. She kept yelling my name and started to run towards me. I thought she looked like she wanted to play a game so I kept running. That’s one of my favorite games… playing tag!

Once I was all the way up our street and really far away my house she caught up to me. She looked kinda funny, all out of breath and mad. She started to smack my butt with the papers she got from the funny magic box and all the humans were staring at her. Then I decided that maybe she didn’t want to play and so I wanted to go home. On the way back I went to go say hi to my friend Logan. He looks like just like me, but is a lot bigger. We started to play fight through the gate and for some reason that made mommy even more mad. She looked like she was going to cry, but I don’t know why. Maybe daddy did something silly.

Once I came home mom made me stay in my igloo for awhile. She seemed pretty mad, but I don’t know why. I sure am glad it was mommy and not daddy though, because I don’t like it when he gets mad at me.

Oh, and today is my Aunt Rebecca’s 17th birthday. That seems pretty young to me, because I am 70 years old. I like Aunt Rebecca. She always plays soccer with me and brings my friend Molly over to play with. If you see Aunt Rebecca today, give her lots of doggy kisses for me!
