Everything AND the kitchen sink…

Well, I haven’t posted in awhile, but there has been a lot to keep Justin and me busy. I have always heard that when you buy a house, you can expect things to start falling apart the second you move in… Well, that has not been entirely true, but we have come across a fair amount of problems. One of our more constant issues has been that the kitchen sink will randomly stop draining and start backing up water, even with the garbage disposal chopping up any stray food bits. (I know this is not very interesting, but I promise I am going somewhere with this) Well, last week Justin tried once again to tinker with the pipes and thought he had come up with a way to solve the problem temporarily, until we could get a plumber over. Well, that day when I got home from work, I found the kitchen floor had been slightly flooded, and then came to find that the pipes he disconnected were also the pipes the dishwasher uses! So, for about five days we could not run water in the sink or run the dishwasher without having to empty a bucket underneath the sink every 30 minutes. Thankfully, the plumber came last night and fixed everything! One positive of having things like this go wrong is that you learn to appreciate the small things (which really are HUGE) such as being able to run water.

Skyla continues to do well at our house. She has her routine set, and enjoys alone time with both her parents! In the morning Justin will usually take her on a walk before he goes to work, and when I get home from work in the afternoon it is obvious that she is ready for more attention. While she has a nice bed in our room, she has picked out a few other spots where she likes to relax too. When Justin isn’t home she likes to lie in front of the bookcase in the living room (which technically is supposed to be off-limits to her!).  Most importantly, she likes to be close to whoever is home. No matter what I am doing around the house, she will follow me around and plop herself down no more than 1-2 feet from where I am.

As Spring is quickly approaching Justin and I are starting to think about doing something with the backyard. Justin did a ton of work with the lawn this weekend, and it looks great! Hopefully in the next month or two we can start to plant flowers and get some color in the backyard.

Super Bowl Madness

Justin and I watched the Super Bowl game at Jeff and Jenny’s house (Justin’s partner). We had a blast, lots of yummy food and great company. Bryson, their almost 2 year old son, is quite the entertainer, and was having a great time showing me all his toys. It was an exciting game- the boys were yelling through most of the last quarter. I always enjoy going over to people’s houses and getting decorating ideas and advice. Jenny keeps such a beautiful home and gave me some great thoughts on things I can do here at our house.
