He is risen!

Happy Easter to everyone! We hope that you all were able to enjoy a day of reflection and joy with your loved ones on this most special of days- the day we celebrate Christ’s triumph over death! We attended church this morning and the service was absolutely wonderful, filled with beautiful music and a moving sermon by Erik Thoennes. After church the congregtion shared in a “brunch”. Justin and I then went home and got ready to have Easter lunch with my dad’s family. There were about 15 of us who had lunch together. After the meal we (all the not-so-young-kids) participated in a Easter egg hunt.
This weekend we got one of our wedding presents- a patio set from my Mom and Step-Dad. Now that the weather is starting to get warmer, it will be nice to have the option of eating outside. We still have to set it up, but once we do, I will post some pics of the new set-up.
Justin’s birthday was this week. We celebrated by going to dinner at Northwood’s Inn on Thursday night (his actual b-day) and then with a small dinner party on Friday night.

I’m in love… with a dog??

I am always amazed at the unique dynamic that is pet ownership. We have had Skyla here at the house with us for about 3 months now. Even though it has been such a short time, it seems like I can’t imagine what the house was like before she was here. Justin works 4 nights a week and having her home with me is such a comfort. I enjoy the routine of pulling up the driveway at 5pm, anticipating her cute little wiggly body waiting for me at the garage door (she gets so excited when I come home that she actually starts shaking and acting like a puppy again!). Once I get my stuff put inside we go to the front yard and while I check the mail she inspects the front yard to make sure no other doggies have “marked” their territory on her space… Often, it is hard to pull her away from her investigatory sniffing.
As those of you who have met Skyla know, she is not a particularly affectionate dog. She doesn’t really like to be petted, and she never likes to snuggle. If you do try to show love, she normally walks away. That is not to say, however, that she doesn’t love to be ascloseaspossible to whomever is home! It doesn’t matter if I am getting ready to go to work, or making dinner, or just doing stuff around the house- she wants to be stuck next to my side the whole time! While it sometimes makes getting ready a bit more difficult it is hard to stay annoyed with her for long when I look down and see her beautiful doggy eyes staring at me in love…
I know, I know, I sound like one of those freaks who likes to decorate their house with porcelain dog figurines and wears needlepoint sweaters of their favorite Fido, but I can’t help it. Skyla is a sweet companion, and I am glad I get to share my house with her.

My Birthday Weekend

This past weekend we celebrated my 23rd birthday. We started it all off with dinner on Friday night with my Dad’s family- we ate dinner at Mr. V’s which is a newer restaurant right across the street from our house. Afterwards my fam came over to my house and we had cake (super yummy Cold Stone ice cream cake!!) and I got to open some presents :)

On Saturday we had breakfast with Dave & Sheri and lunch with my mom at a yummy Thai food restauarant. By the time dinner came around Justin and I were too stuffed to even think about eating so instead of going out like we had planned, we rented a movie and ate leftover ice cream cake! Quite a fun night if you ask me…

Sunday night my girlfriends took me to one of my fave places- The Melting Pot. If you have never dined there, you have to soon! Cheese fondue and dessert fondue have to be two of the most amazing inventions ever…
Here are some pics for everyone… The first are my beautiful birthday flowers from Bryant and Amy, and then some of my cards. The rest are what was supposed to be pictures of Skyla and me, but she is almost impossible to get a good square on photo of… (My favorite is the first photo where she is mid-lick)
