Sorry for the recent lack of posting. Justin and I were gone all weekend at Stagecoach… I will try to remember and post pictures later. We had a fabulous time!
One benefit of not having any TV stations is that we miss out on infomercials. Isn’t it funny how watching just a few moments of one of those mind-numbing advertisements can make you want to offer up your credit card number in a flash?

When we were in high school my sister Fran became obsessed with the Revo Styler. The Revo was a blow dryer that claimed to take out frizz and straighten hair all in one step. It had this mechanical wheel like thing that constantly turned the hair, “all without any tangles!” Francina begged many people to go in on it with her (the deal was 2 for $60 or something). I finally gave in and bought her one for Christmas. Even though I told her probably a thousand times that it wouldn’t work, I still had a small sliver of hope. Yea, that thing NEVER worked. Not even once. I don’t even think it ever turned on.

Ever since that experience I have been fairly jaded when it come to “only on TV” offers. Last year, however, I was seriously tempted by the Kinoki foot detox pads. Anyone who knows me well understands that I would pay much more than the listed $19.99 to rid myself of gross black/green/brown toxins. I didn’t even know I had dirty gross toxins in me until I saw the infomercial on someone else’s TV. After completing some research I found out that the pads are simply water-reactive. The “toxins” are really just particles of sweat or moisture that are turned dark by chemicals in the pads.
Have you ever lost self control and purchased something from an infomercial? Did the product work as promised? Come on people, fess up!
I apologize for my absence over the last few days. Several different times I have gone to log-in with a really good post to type out. Each of these times I became distracted and somehow forgot to come back later.
Hmmm, just happened again.
7 hours later.
Prepare yourselves folks, I’m on a rampage tonight. But for good reason, I assure you.
Most of you know that I work in a hotel. In the hospitality industry, we live and die by our service scores. You might think I am being dramatic… but trust me, I am not. I personally know someone who was laid off last month for not being able to bring up his hotel’s service scores quick enough. At my hotel we have an entire committee dedicated to reviewing each and every guest survey that is returned. We meet weekly and talk about the follow-up calls we’ve made to the guest, etc. We take guest service very seriously.
You can imagine how hard it must be for me when I go somewhere and am treated rudely. My first thought is always, “Why on earth would you choose to work in the service industry if being nice to people is so obviously impossible for you?” Now, don’t get me wrong- we all have our bad days. I don’t always feel like Miss Sunshine… but the days that I am feeling so sick/cranky/whatever that I can’t bear to be cheerful… well, I just suck it up anyway. People don’t pay to stay at my hotel so that they get to hear about my terrible day/stomach cramps/whatever.
I bet you are all wondering what could have possibly happened to me this week that would make me so bitter. Hold on to your seats folks, it’s worse than you could have imagined.
Today, as you all might know, is Administrative Professional’s Day. I was put in charge of ordering a cake for the Sales Admin. I called Cold Stone and dealt with a lovely gentleman that we will call “Steve.” During the course of our conversation Steve managed to guilt me for making him come in early to decorate my cake, chastise me for not ordering 48 hours in advance, and in general was nothing but passive aggressive and snarky. Yep, that’s right… snarky. Don’t worry- I ended up cancelling the order and writing a strongly worded complaint to the Cold Stone corporate office. It wasn’t until after I had hit send on the complaint e-mail that Steve called me back… He wanted to “thank me” for calling so that he didn’t “waste a cake.” He then proceeded to remind me, once more, that he had come in early to work on my cake. Are you kidding me??
And then there was “Jane.” Jane works in the returns department at Kohl’s. Listen, I get it… doing returns all day must be a drag. But it’s not my fault you chose to work there!! I walked up to the return desk and very cheerfully and politely explained what I needed to do (return two items, exchange two other items for different sizes, and get a price adjustment on the previously mentioned exchanges). Like a good little customer I even had my receipt all ready to go. It is important to mention that Jane did not say one word to me until approximately 75% of our entire interaction was complete. After everything was complete I started to gather my items to leave. Then Jane broke her silence.
“What about those items?” She points to the items I am placing in my bag.
“Well,” I stammered, “I thought you already took care of the exchange and adjustment.”
“You made me do all that work??” She lets out a sigh of obvious frustration. **
** This is the line that nearly sent me over the edge.
Apparently she misunderstood my earlier explanations and only gave me a price adjustment. I think. I still am not quite sure what she thought I wanted the first time around. Basically what it comes down to is this… Jane didn’t really listen to me the first time. She didn’t ask any clarifying questions and just went straight to work fixing what she thought was the problem. And all that was my fault.
At work we have a little formula for when a guest is feeling mad or like they have been jipped. It goes a little something like this:
Listen.
Reiterate the guest’s words to make sure you have it right.
Apologize.
Fix the problem.
Thank them for letting you solve the problem.
Wouldn’t we all feel well taken care of if every problem was solved in the above fashion??
I will end on a good note… We were provided excellent service this week by Apple. I was smart enough to pay for the Apple Care extended warranty when I purchased my laptop 2.5 years ago. Lately the mouse thingy has been sticking and so Justin made an appointment to take her in to be seen at the Apple doctor. They replaced the whole keyboard/bottom layer and now she is as good as new. Thanks Apple!
Fun moments from my week that I am very thankful for:
1. On Wednesday night the girls came over for dinner and a trip to Golden Spoon. We did a potluck of sorts… I made soup, Fran brought strawberries, Kel brought yummy bread, and Megs picked up a salad to share. Megs and Fran were on Easter break and so they didn’t even have to rush home! We chatted and giggled on my couches until 10:30! I love the nights where we can just sit and talk for hours.
2. My sister Rebecca is going to prom this week! She has a gorgeous dress, beautiful jewelry and shoes all ready to go. She is the junior class president and so this dance has been a huge project for her all year. Good job Becky! Everything is going to go perfectly, I just know it
3. My nephew Brayden has a birthday coming up. This week we got an invite to his party and his mom had also included a picture that he colored for me. Justin put it up on the fridge while I was at work and my eyes filled with tears when I came home and found it. He is such a sweet little boy and I do wish we got to see him more often.

4. Justin got out our bikes on Friday and made them ride-ready (dusted them off and filled up the tires with air). We went on a ride Friday night before Homebuilders and then went to the grocery store Saturday morning on our bikes. It is fun to ride my cute little pink bike around the neighborhood… even if that darn seat makes my tooshy hurt!
5. It appears as if summer is coming to stay! This weekend we had a bit of a hot streak… I even got a sunburn on my arm yesterday from our bike ride to the grocery.
6. Yesterday Skyla and I went up to my parent’s house for the afternoon. Skyla spent the day playing with Molly, and I went to a tea party at my aunt’s house. It was quite fun! I have attempted to upload a video of Skyla from yesterday. It really isn’t all that exciting of a video- I just wanted to see if it would work. I have never tried to post a video before. Leave me a comment and let me know if you were able to view it! UPDATE: I am not as technically savvy as I thought. I will try again some other time.
I know we are supposed to live for the present and all, but sometimes my day is seriously dragging and I need the pick-me-up of contemplating future fun!
in one week:
Justin and I will be enjoying all the country music we can possibly handle at the Stagecoach music festival.
in one month:
We will go camping with our Grace Group!
in two months:
We will possibly be with our cousins Kevin and Carissa in UT with BP, Amy, and Stone.
in five months:
We will embark on a cruise to Alaska!
in eight months:
It will be Christmas time!**
** Blonde Moment of the Day: Do you know that up until this last year or so, I didn’t know that the “Santa” referred to in the song “I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause” was the dad?? I always disliked that song because I didn’t understand why it would be happy to sing about your mom cheating on your dad. Sometimes I amaze even myself.
I am going to let you all in on a secret.
My husband is a softie. A total softie.
He tries to act all rough and tough but the man is as soft as they come. Well, sometimes.
You don’t believe me? Here’s proof: Skyla has almost always been a dry dog food type of dog. Dry food is way cheaper, and let’s be honest- if I have to eat on a budget… so does she! A couple of months ago Justin decided that we would start supplementing wet food, so that each night she got dry food and half a can of the yummy canned stuff. Little Miss Thang, however, caught on quickly. Most nights, she eats around the dry stuff and somehow manages to get every morsel of the wet food. Over the weekend, she wouldn’t eat at all. (Sometimes she does this. It freaks me out a bit, but I figure she always comes around) Last night, Justin decided to conduct an experiment. He gave her a whole can of wet food and NO dry food. Yeah, she had it all packed away in less than 3 minutes. Justin then announced that from now on, we would feed her exclusively wet food, for every meal. Being the mean stepmother that I am, I naturally protested the cost…. as well as the fact that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the dry food. Justin’s response? “Oh, well… she’s getting old. Let’s give her this one pleasure.”
So there you go, folks. I guess this means I can expect him to feed me lobster and steak when we get old??
Tonight I laid down her food bowl and went to sort laundry in the bedroom. When I returned, I couldn’t find her food bowl.
You’ll have to tilt your heads here. This wouldn’t rotate for me.

When I left, her bowl was right in the corner of the door and the wall.

Apparently, in her excitement, she pushed her bowl all the way into the den.

This is the best picture I could get… You can sort of see how far she ended up pushing the bowl. (from past the far left hand side of the photo to past the far right hand side)
In other doggy news… we have decided on a name! Ironically, it is not any of the options posted on the poll a couple of posts ago. I was dead-set on Scout until a lively discussion with my Grace Groupers produced an even better idea… Because of our love for MASH, we have decided to name our pup after a certain beloved Corporal…

Radar, we can’t wait for you to come home!

As you all know, Justin and I are going to be welcoming a new puppy into our house next month.
BP and Amy are working on picking out which male will be ours. Here is one of the little guys. Amy says they look like little bears… so cute!

Anyway, back to what I need your help with. We are having the hardest time picking out a name for this new little guy. It honestly makes me worry for when we have to name a child… We cannot agree on anything! It is like that friends episode where Ross and Rachel are trying to come up with baby names: “Ruth… VETO!”
I tried to figure out how to add a poll to the blog, but it is way too complicated. We are going to do this old-school. Please post a comment on which name you vote for. If you have an awesome idea that you would like to add, please feel free to do that too. Keep in mind, we are going with “S” names…
a. Scout
b. Sandy
c. Scooby
d. Sheriff
Day 3… things are taking shape!
Step outside the sliding glass door.

My new back door landing is so pretty!

These wires go from the house to the garage. They are quite unsightly.

Thanks to the ditch Justin dug this morning, we will be able to put half of them underground.

Skyla is being such a good girl with this whole project!
