my life in numbers

7seven
The amount of bruises I have on my legs from Radar ramming his cone up against me.

8eight
The number of times I was called yesterday by a telemarketer on my cell. I have now joined the “Do Not Call” registry.

24twentyfour
The hours that are left until I am holding my Stoney, gabbing with Amy, and trying to keep Justin and Bryant from running around the house naked.

14fourteen
The days that stand in between now and the day we leave for Alaska!

tales from the vet’s office

When Radar was discharged after his surgery on Monday, we were given very strict instructions for his post-operative care. He isn’t allowed outside (except to use the restroom), we can’t let him get too excited- yea… right, and he has to wear a cone for 10-12 days. Trust me when I say these were only a few of the instructions given to us. Before I left the vet’s office the receptionist helped me schedule his two follow up appointments, one for bandage removal and the other to remove his stitches.

Here is a picture of my pitiful puppy:

As of right now, we are still 36 hours away from his bandage removal appointment. You can imagine my horror, then, when I came home today and found that he had chewed off his left leg bandage… (How he did that with the cone on, I will never know. He is a very resourceful puppy) I called the vet to find out what to do and happened to speak with the very same receptionist who set up my appointments on Monday. After consulting my charts she told me in a very snarky voice, “You were supposed to come back to get his bandages removed 2-3 days later. They should have already been taken off.” I gently asked what my appointment was for on Saturday… I am sure you can guess where the conversation went from there. She sure never owned up to making a mistake when scheduling the appointment! I bet I am now on their list of poor puppy owners. I mean, I can’t even follow their detailed instructions! Sheesh…

As Miss Stephanie Tanner would say, “How rude!”

our little guy

Today I dropped Radar off for his first surgey. I felt like such a traitor leaving him there, knowing what they were going to do to him. Sweet little guy loves going to the vet and had no clue what was in store for him, although I do think he was already a little peeved with me for not feeding him this morning. Normally he just gets a few shots at the vet, which I don’t even think he feels. I am already preparing myself for how pitiful he is going to look with the “cone of shame” on.

Can you believe he is already 5 months old? Well, in a week at least. Today, in addition to taking away his “manhood,” the doctors will be removing his hind leg du-claws. For those of you who have seen Radar in person, these are his “mutant” claws. Apparently it is natural for dogs to have these but Radar has some freaky unattached ones. So, while he is out they are going to remove the du-claws and also insert his micro chip (in case he ever gets lost).

Here is a photo of the du-claws:

catching up

Why is it that I feel so guilty when I do not post often? Really, I only write here for my own amusement. Tragically, my own mother has even stopped reading the blog. Just kidding Mom, I know you are busy.

So, in case you have been wondering… Here is what has been going on in our neck of the woods.

I am currently re-reading the Harry Potter series. I first read the series (which then was up to year 6 at Hogwart’s) a little over 3 years ago. For some fun summer reading, I decided to start again at the beginning. I am reminded of how much I love the world that Ms. Rowling created. Hence, I am now on a campaign to convince Justin that we should name our daughter Hermoine. It’s not looking good, I’ve gotta admit.

I told Justin that unless the sprinkler project (you know, the one that was started over a year ago) was finished by the time we left for Alaska, I would be looking for someone to go in his place. You see, Justin responds really well to threats. It seems that my plan has worked, so far. The pipes are laid and sprinkler heads are in place in the front yard. There is still no grass, but he does have 4 weeks until we leave.

My little monster is not so little anymore. Yesterday he had his last round of puppy shots/medicine and will now go a year without being poked or prodded. Well, actually, he is going to experience some major poking and prodding when he goes in on Monday to have his manhood “fixed.” We try not to talk about it much, because I don’t want to prematurely traumatize him. It’s better that he not know what is coming.

Well, that’s all for now. Try not to be jealous of my oh-so-exciting life!
